PREVENTION treatment recovery

Time is of the essence. Substance use disorder is preventable, treatable, and responsive to early intervention. We need to focus our efforts on creating more innovative services that can attract and engage young people sooner, as well as prevent substance use to begin with.

PREVENTION

Substance use is not inevitable.

TREATMENT

We fail youth when substance use problems are not quickly detected, communities deny that a problem exists, families do not know what do do when faced with youth who do have a substance use problem, and treatments are insufficiently tailored to youth developmental needs.

RECOVERY

We need to think outside the box, to create more attractive and engaging interventions and recovery support services.

CONNECTION TO THE
Recovery research INSTITUTE

The Recovery Research Institute, founded in 2012, is the vision of its Founder and Director Dr. John F. Kelly to use research, education, and outreach to enhance recovery through science, conducting novel investigations and disseminating the latest research findings for individuals, families, healthcare professionals, and policymakers alike. As Dr. Kelly developed the institute, there was increased recognition regarding the glaring gaps in our understanding of the pathways into youth substance use disorder, as well as attractive and engaging treatment and recovery services. Now, 10 years on after the RRI’s inception, a renewed focus on youth substance use prevention, treatment, and recovery has begun through our National Center.

None of this would have been possible without the generous support of the Peter and Elizabeth C. Tower Foundation.
